Microneedling

WHAT IS MICRONEEDLING?

When home skin care products aren’t proving effective, but you aren’t ready for surgery, learn more about minimally invasive procedures for skin rejuvenation, such as microneedling. Our team is pleased to offer microneedling (collagen induction therapy) at our office in Houston, TX. Microneedling uses several fine-gauge needles to effectively and safely create micro-injuries in the skin. The micro-injuries prompt the body’s natural production of elastin and collagen, two nutrients that contribute to the overall health and appearance of your complexion. Microneedling may help minimize pores, scars, and stretch marks. Schedule a consultation at Beauty Medica to hear more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to customize the treatment for your skin needs and goals.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF MICRONEEDLING?

Even minor signs of aging and sun damage can leave you feeling self-conscious about your appearance. If you notice changes in your skin but are not quite ready for cosmetic surgery, our team may recommend microneedling as a minimally invasive solution. Beauty Medica offers this popular treatment to individuals who want to improve their look without much recovery or downtime. Patients choose to work with our team because:

  • Microneedling is a relatively short and comfortable process
  • Treatment is customized to each patient’s skin type and goals
  • We provide long-lasting results with proper aftercare

HOW DOES MICRONEEDLING WORK?

Great candidates for microneedling have moderate skin complexion problems, like rough skin or low elasticity. Microneedling treatments may also reduce the look of pores, scars, and stretch marks. Collagen induction therapy with microneedling is completed in a private treatment room in about 30 – 60 minutes with numbing cream or local anesthesia if preferred; however, patients typically report mild or no discomfort. The skin being treated will be cleansed before the microneedling handpiece is passed evenly over it. Once the microneedling is complete, a topical treatment, may be applied for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. Following the procedure, you might have mild swelling and redness for around a day, but this should subside naturally. It can take about 1 – 2 months to see full results as the elastin and collagen levels increase. You should schedule about 4 – 6 follow-up treatments every 4 – 6 weeks for the best outcomes and long-lasting skin benefits.

MICRONEEDLING FAQ

How much does microneedling cost?
During your initial consultation, a member of our team will evaluate your skin and then create your personalized plan. Once this is complete, we will talk about your costs and the procedure. Beauty Medica often has specials on treatment packages, so ask about our current deals during your appointment.

What exactly is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a nonsurgical procedure to improve the health of your skin. Collagen is a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin smooth, supple, and firm. Over time, your supply of collagen is reduced, and your skin becomes thin and less elastic. Microneedling makes tiny wounds in your skin. These micro-injuries cause your skin to generate new skin cell growth and increase collagen production. After a short recovery period, your skin is brighter, firmer, and healthier.

How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
Typically, patients need 3 – 6 treatments to get optimal results. Although, how many sessions you require will depend on your skin’s condition and your goals. Microneedling can be performed every 4 – 6 weeks as needed. In your consultation, we will be able to estimate the number of sessions you might want after assessing your skin and listening to your goals. Once you have reached your goal, we recommend getting touch-up treatments about twice a year.

Is microneedling safe for everyone?
On the whole, microneedling is safe for all skin tones and types. Since the skin injuries created are so small, there are rarely side effects after the treatment. Microneedling can be applied to most skin areas, including the face, neck, arms, thighs, chest, and lower legs. Microneedling isn’t recommended if you’ve taken Accutane recently, as well as if you have an active skin infection, open wound, or herpes simplex. Additionally, you may not be able to get microneedling if you’re pregnant, nursing, or undergoing radiation therapy.
